Course Outline
The course focuses on employment theories and policies. Therefore, the various types of work and unemployment as well as the categorization of employment policies are examined. The course also discusses the various procedures for designing, implementing and evaluating these policies. Emphasis is also placed on how employment policies have been shaped and developed during the recent decades, both at European and national level.
Learning Outcomes
Students should be able:
- To know the historical development of employment theories and policies.
- To understand basic concepts related to employment policies.
- To evaluate the importance of the changes that have taken place in recent years in the labor markets under the influence of transformative factors such as technological shifts and the climate crisis.
- To analyze the relationship of each employment policy with economic theories.
- To describe the factors that affect employment participation levels, as well as the broader contemporary trends in employment policies in the EU and Greece.
- To discuss the general, but also specific characteristics of modern employment policies and the variety of government programs and interventions aimed at combating unemployment and other labor market problems.
