Course outline

The aim of this course is the examination of economic theories and development policies regarding the environment of developing economies. Specifically, main topics of the course are classical theories of economic growth (Smith, Ricardo, Marx, Mill), theories of social identification (Boeke, Mc Clelland, Hagen), theories of economic dualism (Lewis, Fay-Ranis), theories of underdevelopment and deindustrialization etc.

Learning Outcomes

By ending the course, students will be able to:

  • Know how the economic development process operated in international scale
  • Compare the character of economic development based on particular indicators, between development and developing economies
  • Know and understand the classical theories of economic growth, neo-classical and structural change positions Understand how economic theories are related with several issues such as, population, human resources, education, environment etc.
  • Know how the role and the importance of spatial units (cities/ regions) developed in international level
  • Know how economic crises and stability policies are related with economic development
