Introduction
The regulations specify the duties and obligations of the teaching staff, the students and invigilators who are responsibly for conducting exams.
2- EXAM PREPARATION
2.1. The University Senate determines the time period within which the exams are conducted. Modifications, if promptly decided upon and if need be, are usually conducted after the General Assembly of the Department has decided upon the matter. 2.2. The exam program is drafted by the Departments Secretariat after it has consulted the teaching staff. 2.3. If, for serious reasons, the teacher responsible for conducting the exam is absent then, the exams may be conducted by a teacher who has been appointed by the Department. 2.4. The details of the exam program for both the summer and winter semesters are announced fifteen(15) days, at least, prior to commence. 2.5. A detailed program of the September exam timetable is usually announced at the end of the summer semester. 2.6. Students who wish to acquire their degrees, may sit for their final course exam in February. The duration of this exam period is a week.
3-THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE EXAMS
3.1 The examiner responsible for a particular course is obliged to: a) promptly receive his file from the secretariat to conduct his exam. The file contains exam writing paper, a roster with candidates names, an evaluation sheet, etc, for every exam room in which the exam will be conducted, b) he is responsible for arranging and rearranging candidates in exam rooms, c)he is obliged to remain within the vicinity of the exam rooms for the duration of the exam. 3.3. Before exam papers are handed out, examinees are obliged to put away all material which deals with the subject matter of the exam, but are permitted to use any reference book which is scheduled to be used by the exam program, 3.3. Exam papers are in printed firm and should be: a) reproduced by the secretariat, under the invigilation of the examiner, the number of exam papers should correspond to the number of examinees, b) at the top front part of each printed paper the specifics of the course, the name of the examiner, the exam period, the date of the exam and the duration of the exam are all specified.
4-CONDUCTING THE EXAM
4.1. The specifics of the exam are determined by the examiner of the specific course (written form, oral examination, paper presentation). 4.2 At the beginning of the exam and directly after the exam papers have been handed to the candidates, examinees may ask the examiner for clarifications. 4.3 Students who produce supporting documents-to the secretariat-verifying obligatory oral examination, are examined by the examiner of the course, within the duration of the written exams but in another classroom within the building the written exam is conducted. The Secretariat is obliged to inform examinees in good time and in writing, about the number of students who will be examined orally. 4.4. The Department offers three majors:
Institutions and Economic Development
Banking and Finance
Business Economics
In the fourth year students must successfully complete ten courses, four of which are compulsory, plus at least two elective courses from his/her major. The remaining four courses are to be chosen from the other major, or from another Department of the University of Thessaly. During their last semester, the students must write a dissertation on a subject chosen from either of the three majors. The dissertation is equivalent to one course. If a student chooses not to write a dissertation, he/she may choose one additional course, which should belong to one of the majors from the final year's programme. The programme envisages a bimonthly practice in a public or private firm.
Foreign languages
The Department requires good knowledge of the English Language. Students who are not holding (at least) a FIRST CERTIFICATE (or a Lower degree) in English, are required to take English as a foreign language. Students who provide an original copy of their English FIRST CERTIFICATE (or Lower degree) have the possibility to choose one out of the other three foreign languages taught at the University (French, Italian, German). The selection of the foreign language course is to be made with an application at the Secretariat of the department during the very first week of the first semester or during enrolment day. Foreign languages are taught at four different levels, during the first four semesters. Attendance to these courses is compulsory and progress (on a pass/fail basis) at each level is monitored in the students' file. Students have the option to change their foreign language selection during the first week of their third semester. The eventual selection of a second foreign language is taken into account toward obtaining the final degree.
